I've been accepted! How do I get to the Norton Island Residency?

Norton Island sounds great. Is it for everyone?

Democratically speaking… Yes… But also… No. There is cold, damp, rain, and fog. One must be able to handle solitude, as well as minor chores (dishes, sweeping, etc) to help maintain the small island community. This place draws residents who tend to be freewheeling thinkers that have cast off the mantel of pretense once in this remote haven. It's not Lord of the Flies, mind you, but dainty won't do, fussbudgets fail and people harboring major issues generally implode.

What is the most I can expect from the Norton Island Residency experience?

The best case scenario—and the program's reason for existing—is this: You manage somehow to put yourself and everything else aside, except for your work, and work like you never dreamed possible. Others have done it, so it's not impossible, but, as stated in the previous answer, Norton Island is not for everybody.

Is Norton Island Residency handicap accessible?

Yes. Norton Island Residency is handicap accessible.

Is internet provided on Norton Island?

No.

Will my cellular phone or device work on Norton Island?

Most U.S. cellular service providers pick up a strong signal on Norton Island. Residents often use phones as hotspots. International residents are strongly encouraged to consider this while planning for their residency.

What can I expect to find in my cabin?

Each space is accommodated with a twin bed, a desk, a desk lamp and power outlets. Artists’ studios have lights and are well lit by natural sunlight from skylights with southern exposure.
